Mississippi Assistance Programs

CHIP
This medical assistance/health insurance program covers medical expenses for kids and children up to their 19th birthday. There are no premiums to pay for this health care aid program, but some families may have to pay a small co-pay or premium for some health services. Community Food and Nutrition Program (CF&N)
The CF&N program provides nutritional needs and supplements to low-income people. Major accomplishments of this assistance program include assistance for individuals and families to increase the amount of food available to those in need.

The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program
This program provides help and assistance for needy families with children up to age 18 years of age. Monthly TANF cash grant payments are made for children needs and their needy caretaker relatives if they do not have enough resources or income to meet their everyday needs as determined by state program standards.

Food Stamp Program
Provides monthly aid, grants, and benefits that will help lower income households buy the food they need for good health and nutrition.

Mississippi Energy Bill Assistance Programs

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP):
LIHEAP will provide financial assistance and aid to households to help Mississippi residents in need pay the cost of home energy bills, including heating and cooling bills, and other energy related services. Households may qualify for LIHEAP assistance and/or the Energy Crisis (emergency) Intervention Program (ECIP) for wood, natural gas, electricity, liquid petroleum propane/butane gas, and other energy related services.

Low-Income Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP):
WAP grants and funds are intended to improve the conditions of lower income families homes. This assistance program was created designed to lower home cooling and heating costs by saving energy, improving energy efficiency, and also ensuring safety and health.

Entergy
Entergy in Mississippi distributes fans and cooling devices to customers located throughout its 45-county service territory.

Child Care Assistance
Families in need to receive free or very low priced child care. The free child care will allow families to work, get job training, or further education.

Lifeline and Link-Up telephone bill assistance programs
This is a federal government run program that provides telephone customers a discount of up to $15 per month on either their cellular or home telephone bill. In addition, participants do not have to pay the universal service fund charge that appears monthly on their phone bills. That fee is waived.
