Computers record a history of recent Web sites viewed, which can be used to detect where your child or teen has surfed. Generally, you can view this history by clicking on "My Computer" from the desktop; selecting the "C" drive; selecting either "History" or "Windows" and then selecting "Temporary Internet Files".

Also, E-Cycling Central is on online guide to electronics recyclers. This site is created by the Environmental Issues Council of the Electronics Industry Alliance. It gives information about recycling used electronics products. Go to www.ecyclingcentral.com
If your machine isn't obsolete, you can trade it in. Hewlett-Packard arranges trade-ins through a third party. HP will give you a free quote online through its Trade-In Program (www.hp.com/united-states/tradein).
Toshiba (http://toshiba.eztradein.com) and Gateway (http://gateway.eztradein.com) offer similar trade-in programs. You can also trade in other electronic gadgets.
If all else fails, recycle your old computer. But recyclers often charge a fee. The materials in the computer aren't worth much, but the hazardous materials will be disposed of properly. Finding a recycler can be tricky, but you'll find websites that will help at Electronics Recycling (www.electronicsrecycling.net). The recyclers are listed by state. Some charge fees; others do not.
You can also recycle your machine through Dell (www.dell.com/recycling). Dell doesn't charge to recycle its own machines; it will recycle other manufacturer's machines free with the purchase of a new Dell.
HP (www.hp.com/hpinfo/globalcitizenship/environment/recycle) will also recycle all brands. Prices range up to $34, but if you buy a new HP machine, you'll get a credit.
Apple (www.apple.com/environment/recycling/program/index.html) offers free recycling of any brand when buying a new machine. For more recycling solutions, visit the National Safety Council (www.nsc.org/ehc/epr2/Cntctlst.htm).
